In this week’s issue of People Magazine, Michael Douglas speaks about marriage during his interview promoting his new romantic comedy co-starring Diane Keaton “And So It Goes”. Unfortunately, another celebrity marriage is on the brink of ending. Robin Thicke and Paula Patton have decided to separate after almost 10 years of marriage and being a couple since teenagers. The couple have a 3 year-old son together.
According to PEOPLE, the couple sent out a statement today stating their mutual decision to separate:
“We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”
This comes on the hinges of recent speculation of Robin Thicke crossing the boundaries of flirting with women, open marriages and cheating. Unfortunately, it is sad to see a couple with so much history together to separate. But two people grow apart. Sometimes fame opens your eyes to different experiences and viewpoints that are not shared between two people. Many times people separate and eventually reconcile. Sometimes, two people need to experience life on their own, especially when they have only dated and been in a relationship with each other throughout their teens, twenties and thirties. Many times this happens and two people eventually drift back to each other. They realize that the grass isn’t greener separated. Whatever their reason is, I wish them the best and hope they remain amicable and put their son as their top priority.

According to multiple media sources, it has been confirmed that singer/ actress Hilary Duff has separated from husband retired Canadian NHL player Mike Comrie. Duff’s publicist told ABC News, “They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives,” “They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.” According to People magazine, though they tried to work out their issues in couples therapy, it ultimately became clear that they “work better as friends.”
It is now more the norm for marriages to end in separation or divorce as oppose to enduring life’s challenges. If two people put their best effort forward in attempting to save their marriage, through therapy, but differences still cannot be resolved….it is okay to let it go. Everyone is responsible for their own happiness. Despite whether you are a celebrity or punching the clock at a nine-to-five you do not have to prove anything to anyone except yourself. As long as the kids are considered first and are alright , this too shall pass. Press on and Let Life Flow!
