Following the rapid success of Fox TV television series “Empire” coming to it’s first season finale, actress Taraji Henson visited the Steve Harvey show and spoke about her stance on relationships.

She opened up about dating and making her relationship public before it is official (by way of wedding ring on finger) including bringing a plus one to Red Carpet events.

“I’m a grown woman so ‘dating and let’s just see’ –those days are over. If there’s nothing on this finger, if this finger’s naked, no one gets claimed. You don’t get claimed until you claim me. Period. You don’t get to say, ‘I dated Taraji P. Henson.’ You don’t get to go on the red carpet and share that part of my life with me because now, today with social media, it’s not private. I have a son  and I don’t want them to be like ‘mom dated that one and this and this’…I can’t do that. I can’t afford that because then when I do meet the one, he’s gonna be like, ‘you were a ho, you been with this one, this one, this one’…I can’t do that.”

She also stated this:

“If you’re not serious, don’t even open your mouth. Shake my hand and keep it moving. I’ve accomplished so much in my life and right now, I just want someone to share it with.”

My Insights!

Agree, Agree and Agree!!!! I whole-heartedly believe as a divorcee that is well into her mid-30s that as I seek my next future soul mate/ next husband, the relationship is not official until a marriage proposal. Until then, will someone meet my family, my co-workers, and be claimed as my significant other on any social media outlets.

If a woman is about purposeful dating in search for their soul mate, she should only be seeking mates who are serious about building a healthy foundation to a committed relationship. Not someone, that is still embracing their single-life. As an accomplished woman who has two sprouts, and has attained a sustainable career, all I want now is someone to share my life with who makes me happy, accepts me and my family and values marriage and sees me as their potential wife.

Other than that, I will remain happily single and working on being a better me and mom.
